We’d like to introduce you to Lauren Bailey and Alice Pj, two students we have had the pleasure of working with recently. They are members of The University of Sheffield’s Dance Society and this year Lauren has been the society’s Volunteering and Fundraising Officer. In this role she has been organising dance lessons for Snowdrop’s women on Fridays. Here’s what she told us about her involvement.
I was motivated to get involved as soon as I heard the phenomenal work that the charity undertakes and I knew that, the story behind Snowdrop would inspire us more than anything to volunteer and fundraise as much as we could.
“Dance is a brilliant form of expression and we have all had a lot of fun creating a new opportunity for the women to let go of some of their weekly stresses. We all leave the sessions with a sense of pride of having contributed in a tiny way to such a worthwhile cause.”
“Everyone has been coming up with new ways to raise money for the charity, for example our Publicity Officer Alice ran the Sheffield half marathon on Snowdrop’s behalf too.”
Alice told us “It’s such a great cause, I have really enjoyed my involvement with you so far so I thought you’d be the perfect charity for me to run for.”
We asked Lauren about her favourite moment, “the highlight so far has to be when the women gave us a lesson in the traditional wedding dances of their own cultures and we were dancing around the room arm in arm as a big circle. A lovely moment. I am very much hoping that these sessions become an annual occurrence after I have left Dance Society.”
Thank you ladies for your dedication to the project and to our women.
